Retama Residence Hall Renovation

Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas

The 31,255 GSF existing building is a two-story residence hall located on a sloping site in the heart of campus. Originally built several decades ago, the hall required substantial renovations to meet current building codes, accessibility standards, state energy regulations, and security needs. This renovation project included comprehensive site improvements, such as new water, wastewater, and communication infrastructure extensions from the Bobcat Trail project to Retama Hall. The renovation also expanded the facility to include a two-bedroom staff apartment, staff office, front desk, mail room, two study areas, a kitchen, two laundry rooms, public restrooms, and a lobby/lounge space. An elevator was installed to ensure full compliance with Texas Accessibility Standards, and the sidewalks and stairs at the N LBJ entry were also remodeled to enhance accessibility and safety.

GarzaEMC provided critical civil engineering services for the project, including the design and coordination of utility extensions and site modifications. The firm also played a key role in construction administration, ensuring that all phases of the project were completed to the highest standards.
