North Austin Reservoir & Pump Station

City of Austin, Austin, Texas

Two existing water treatment plants provide potable water to the Central Zone which fills the existing North Austin ground storage tank (GST). Water is then distributed from this GST to the North Pressure Zone via two separate distribution pump stations; one located onsite, and the other being located across the street. The reservoir site pump station consists of two horizontal split case pumps, while the booster pump station consists of three horizontal split case pumps.

The objective of this project was to decommission existing infrastructure and construct and startup a new facility complex that will include a new ground storage tank and a Central Zone to North Zone pump station designed to current industry and utility standards. Measures to maintain some degree of distribution pumping throughout construction are being integrated into the construction sequencing. Design improvements addressed the hydraulic, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical/ instrumentation and controls (E/I&C), and environmental aspects of the facility.
